Beating Kitty Boredom

Beating Kitty Boredom

Did you know that cats can—and do—get bored? We know, Fluffy may really enjoy doing as little as possible, but kitties do need entertainment and stimulation to stay happy and healthy. In this article from River Valley Veterinary Hospital, serving the Fox Chapel, PA area, a local vet discusses keeping your kitty entertained.

Toys

Toys aren’t just fun for Fluffy: they’re very good for her. Pouncing on that fuzzy catnip mouse will help keep your pet in good physical shape, while batting at objects offers your kitty beneficial mental stimulation. Cats all have their own purrsonal preferences, so offer your furball a variety of fun playthings, and see what she likes best.

DVDS

Did you know that they make DVDs just for cats? Some kitties really like watching shows about squirrels, fish, and birds. (Results may vary.)

Window Seat

Birdwatching is one of cats’ favorite activities. Give Fluffy a comfy spot before a window with a good view, so she can relax and observe local wildlife.

Playtime

Take time to play with Fluffy regularly. Use toys that you control, like a laser pointer or wand toy, to make this more fun for your kitty. This is also a great way for you to bond with your cat, and make her feel loved, safe, and perhaps a bit pampered.

Kitty Furniture

Offer Fluffy some kitty furniture. Look for some pieces that offer vertical space. Cats also like things that offer spots to hide in and explore.

Boxes

Fluffy’s box obsession is definitely adorable. Bring home empty boxes for your furball every now and then. You can even make your furry little diva her own box castle!

Pet Garden

We recommend that cats live indoors, but there’s no reason Fluffy can’t get a taste of nature. Buy some pet-safe plants for your feline friend to chew on and hide behind. If you really want to go all out, turn a spare room or bright corner into a catio. Look online at the ASPCA website for safe, suitable options.

Kitty Comforts

If you leave your furry pal home alone, turn a TV or radio on for her. The sound of music and voices will provide comforting background noise, so your pet doesn’t feel as bored or lonely.
