6 Things Your Dog is Thankful For

6 Things Your Dog is Thankful For

Thanksgiving is coming up fast! Although that delicious seasonal food is great, it’s also important to think about the true meaning of the autumn holiday: gratitude. Dogs are definitely something to be thankful for. They’re cute, loving, loyal, playful, and protective. But if Fido could make a list of the things he is grateful for, what do you think would be on it? A Fox Chapel, PA vet offers some educated guesses below.

Bacon

Nothing gets that tail going like the thought of a yummy snack. Bacon is one of Fido’s favorites! Just don’t go overboard with this fatty treat. Shredded deli meat is also a good treat, as is cooked, plain meat, fish, or poultry, without the skin, bones, or fat.

Soft Beds

Fido is super cute when he’s curled up in his doggy bed, dreaming of chasing squirrels … or eating bacon. Make sure your canine companion has a comfy bed to snuggle up in! Older pooches and large breeds will benefit from the extra support of orthopedic beds.

Toys!

Playing is of course lots of fun for Fido. It’s hard not to smile when watching your pet happily bounding after his favorite plaything. Be sure to clean and inspect your pup’s toys regularly. If your furry buddy’s favorite plaything is falling apart, toss it and replace it. (You’ll of course want to do this when your dog isn’t looking.)

Walks

Walking isn’t just important for sanitary reasons. It gives Fido a great workout, and helps beat the bored-doggy blues. Even if you have a yard for your pup to run and play in, take your canine friend for a daily walk. This is a great way to spend time with your furry best friend!

Ear Scritches and Belly Rubs

A dog getting belly rubs is an adorable picture of sheer bliss. Offer your pooch lots of attention! This may be just as fun and relaxing for you as it is for Fido.

You

Fido’s whole world revolves around you, and the love and care you give him. Your canine pal will stick by you through thick and thin, offering endless tail wags, happy dances, and doggy smooches. That special bond between dogs and humans is something you can both be grateful for!
